Burton J. Newmark received his wings and commission as a member of the Cadet Class of 44-C. He has logged hours in three of the four primary US WW II fighters, including the P-40, P-47 and P-51. He was assigned in the ETO to the 84th Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group in Duxford on October 8, 1944. During a mission on February 21, 1945, he was hit by flak and had to bail out west of Coblenz, Germany, 60 miles from the Allied lines. He was captured and interned as a POW until the end of the war.
